A WPI-8 (also known as a windstorm certificate of compliance or ‘app ID’) is a document issued by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) that certifies a structure complies with Texas windstorm building requirements. This certificate is required to obtain windstorm insurance coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA).

You typically need a windstorm inspection if you are:

• Building a new home or structure

• Adding onto an existing structure

• Replacing or repairing roofs, siding, doors, or windows

• Making exterior structural repairs in a designated coastal area

• Aransas

• Brazoria

• Calhoun

• Cameron

• Chambers

• Galveston

• Jefferson

• Kenedy

• Kleberg

• Matagorda

• Nueces

• Refugio

• Willacy

Plus portions of:

• Harris County

• Liberty County

• Orange County
